Birth Injury Prevention: Pregnancy Do’s and Don’ts
Sometimes, birth injuries are the results of events that are unavoidable, though unfortunate. Sometimes, there a mother experiences complications in her birthing process that leads to birth injury.
However, when it comes to protecting one’s child from possible harm, a mother cannot be too careful. Though we may not be able to have full control over the events surrounding a birth, we are not utterly helpless.
So, if you’re a mom wanting to do everything she can to ensure her child’s health and safety, here are some pregnancy do’s or don’ts you should remember.
1. Do get rid of your vices.
- This includes alcohol, cigarettes and illegal drugs.
2. Don’t eat fish with high mercury levels.
- This includes shark, tuna and swordfish. Lessen your intake of shellfish.
3. Do be careful.
- Don’t engage in strenuous physical activity while you’re pregnant.
4. Do keep your surroundings clean and toxic-free.
- Stay away from paint, toxic cleaners, insect killers, etc. Cat litter can also cause allergies and complications.
5. Don’t eat unpasteurized dairy products.
6. Eliminate caffeine.
- Caffeine has been linked to miscarriages, so it’s better to eliminate it from your diet altogether while you’re pregnant.
7. Keep healthy
- Sleep well, eat well and engage in moderate exercise like walking or yoga.
These 7 things will help keep your baby healthy. And don’t forget to stay in close contact with your physician during the durations of your pregnancy. Don’t take any medication without asking your health provider first.
